Laura Preston is an artist and writer. Her practice questions the political agency of the art object, if it be a painting or a text, and considers this form as only ever distributed. She places emphasis on the sounding, performative, and time-based aspects of the work, including its publication. Her research work relates to the histories of conceptual art and the politics of this art history—the attempt is to claim its continuity and to read it otherwise. An associate editor of documenta 14, Athens / Kassel, she has also curated exhibitions at Adam Art Gallery Te Pātaka Toi, Victoria University of Wellington and Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, among other art institutions. She is currently working as a research assistant for the documenta Institut and department of architecture at the University of Kassel, while writing a doctorate with the Institute of Art Theory and Cultural Studies, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from where she lives, in Berlin.
